Britain: The only market outlet for New Zealand sheepmeat to show an increase in sales for the first eight months of the year was Britain, while there was a significant drop in sales to some EU countries trading with New Zealand exporters at that time.

Overall exports of sheepmeat by New Zealand to the EU were down by 4.5% for the period January-August 2004, compared to the same period in 2003, during which the supplies to Britain increased by 5%.

Sales of New Zealand lamb to Ireland are not shown separately, with supplies for the catering trade in this country usually coming through British wholesale suppliers. Sales of frozen New Zealand lamb to the catering trade and through some retail outlets in this country have been increasing in recent years.
