Farmers’ uncertainties lead to protests over WTO talks

FARMERS’ plans to protest next week against the EU’s stance in the World Trade Organisation negotiations reflect the depth of their concerns that their future is being eroded - yet again.

There was already more than enough uncertainty over the future of the Common Agricultural Policy, leaving farmers unsure about where their industry is heading, without further erosion of their position in WTO talks.

In Ireland, farmers are particularly challenged, having failed to keep pace with the rising tide in incomes in recent years.
