Ferris pleased with fuels pledge

A PLEDGE by Industry Commissioner Gunter Verheugenall that the EU will become more proactive in the promotion of alternative fuels was welcomed by Sinn Féin agriculture spokesperson Martin Ferris, TD.

Apart from benefits to the environment and the need to replace fossil-fuels, he said alternative fuel production could bring economic benefits.

He said people involved in the sugar beet sector are puzzled as to why the Carlow facility is not being used to produce ethanol.
