Safety guide for all-terrain vehicles

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has produced an information sheet for users of ATVs (all-terrain vehicles or quad bikes), particularly agricultural and forestry workers, to ensure they are taking appropriate safety measures.

The number of serious work-related accidents involving ATVs is concerning authorities. Non-fatal accidents are not well reported but in Britain they are estimated to amount to over 1,000 serious injuries annually.

The HSA says the most important safety issues with sit-astride ATVs are training, protective equipment, maintenance and a good knowledge of the terrain.
