IFA urges Glanbia on milk price

A COMMITMENT from Glanbia to pay a strong milk price for 2006 was sought at an Irish Farmers’ Association suppliers’ meeting in Kilkenny last night.

IFA President Padraig Walshe reminded the Glanbia board and management that when they were persuading farmers to support the Avonmore-Waterford merger, they offered 3 cent per gallon (0.84c/l) of a price promise.

At the time, Glanbia management attributed this directly to the savings and efficiencies arising from the merger.
