BRITISH Prime Minister Tony Blair failed to convince Ireland East MEP Mairead McGuinness on the future of the European Union’s agri policy when she questioned him.

She said Mr Blair told her in the European Parliament that he does see Europe having an agriculture policy beyond 2013, but it must be more realistic than the current CAP.

“However, Mr Blair failed to outline what a realistic agricultural policy might look like and whether it would ensure the survival of the so called European model of agriculture, whether it would ensure a living countryside, take into account protection of the environment, food safety or animal welfare,” she said.
