Beef eaters boost export markets

The improvement in the market balance throughout 2003 is good news for Irish exporters, particularly evident in Holland, Italy, France and Spain which are all important export destinations for Irish beef.

Total beef production during 2003 is expected to decrease by more than 180,000 tonnes to 7.27 million tonnes, a fall of more than 2% on corresponding year earlier levels. Consumption of beef, however, is expected to increase by a further 105,000 tonnes or 1%, to more than 7.4 million tonnes.
