Over-age fear drives out more cattle

While most processors across the south maintained quotes for the week at last week’s levels of 238 back to 227 cents/kg (85p-81p/lb) for R/O grades, in the midlands an extra 6 cents/kg (2p/lb) continued to be paid, and further north up to 250 cents/kg (89p/lb) was still being quoted for R3 steers.

Most of the pressure to get prices down appears to be coming on farmers in the south, where supplies have been stronger, allowing an attempt to bring O grade prices back to 224 cents/kg (80p/lb).
