Higher prices not delivering for beef producers

HIGHER prices for selective grades of cattle at beef factories are not delivering overall higher returns to producers, because of a corresponding reduction in prices now being paid for the poorer quality animals.

Overall average prices being paid by processors continued the downward slide last week, with heifer prices among the worst effected, the official pay sheet returns for the week have confirmed.

The average for R3 bullocks is slightly back on the previous week with O3 grade down 1p/lb.
