Fine Gael spokesperson Billy Timmins, TD, urging Minister Joe Walsh to introduce such a system, noted that the closing date for the receipt of applications was recently extended to April 16.

“Many farmers will be making an Area Aid application for the first time in 2004 and it would be reassuring to those required to return these forms if they had a local processing office, especially at a time of industrial action in the postal service,” he said.
