THE IFA claimed yesterday that the measures proposed in the Government’s draft action programme on nitrates are unnecessary, unworkable and unaffordable, and are totally at odds with the realities of farm incomes.

John Dillon, president, made the claim as the IFA held an information meeting for politicians in Dublin on the implications of the proposed measures.

Mr Dillon said the IFA has sought an urgent meeting with Environment Minister, Martin Cullen TD.
