Dublin: Common sense must prevail in the regulation of veterinary medicines, according to the ICMSA, which warned that a system bound up in red tape with additional costs must not be introduced.

Beef and Cattle Committee chairman John O’Leary said EC proposals to make all veterinary medicines used for food-producing animals prescription only was a big concern. If implemented, it would mean that to treat an animal for any condition with a veterinary medicine, a farmer would require a prescription from a vet.
