First significant price rise in weeks for hogget sellers

Although a price rise after Easter runs contrary to the normal pattern, to have the rise coming post, it is being welcomed by producers who have been having a dull year to date, seeing the average hogget price plummet by almost 8% compared to the same period last year.

The base prices for hoggets are being quoted at up to 381 cents/kg (136p/lb) and ranging back to 375 cents/kg (134p/lb).
