EU kills off 320 pesticide sprays

MORE and more farmers will have to do without their favourite spray, after more than 50% of the active substances that were on the EU pesticide market in 1993 will have disappeared by the end of this year.

The European Commission recently announced that 110 more active substances will have to be withdrawn from the market by next December, adding to the 320 substances no longer authorised for use after this month.

In 2001, the European Commission introduced a new approach for the evaluation of active substances.
