Potentially fatal bacteria hiding in mince, burgers

A survey of minced beef and burgers in retail stores by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) found traces of the bacteria E. coli O157:H7. Publishing the results of a year-long survey into the problem, the FSAI said the incidence of the potentially fatal bacteria in meat is too high.

“The results of this survey show that the only element preventing illness being associated with these products is the diligence shown by consumers cooking the product thoroughly in the home,” said FSAI chief executive Dr Patrick Wall.
