Lamb prices down

THE protest by farmers at a number of factories over the prices being paid for lamb which continued through the week-end has seriously affected slaughtering.

With supplies being withheld from several plants as the farmers maintained their protest none of the factories were quoting for supplies during the early days of this week as some moves were beginning to be made to resolve the dispute.

Farmers are holding out for 480 cents/kg for new season lamb from the factories but there is still some difference between the parties with the processors defending their case that the price cannot be justified and producers insisting that they are losing too much on spring lamb.
