EU urged to stand by CAP reform deal

Ireland: The Irish Farmers Association yesterday warned the EU not to exceed the CAP reform deal in next month’s crucial world trade talks in Cancun, Mexico.

It followed an agreement worked out between the EU and the US on a joint position from which to negotiate with developing countries over farm subsidies.

The subsidies have been a vexed issue between the two biggest trading blocs in the world and a source of anger among developing countries, who claim they are being shut out of western markets.
