THE IFA warned yesterday that farmers will use the Nice referendum as an opportunity to pass judgement on Government policy and the extent of its response to the farming crisis.

John Dillon, IFA president, said less than an adequate response by the Government will clearly have implications for how farmers vote in the October referendum, irrespective of the IFA’s advocacy of a Yes vote.

He was speaking in Dublin as the IFA lobbied rural TDs outside Leinster House for a package of measures to rescue farm incomes and address what they described as the crisis in farming.
