New food safety standard in place

A NEW food safety management standard has been launched by Trade Minister Michael Ahern for the National Standards Authority of Ireland.

The ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management Systems is destined to become essential for the food industry of the future not only in Ireland but in Europe and internationally.

Mr Ahern said there are about 45,000 registered food businesses in Ireland, ranging from the large multinational companies to the small operations in every town and village.
