MANY farm grants can now be introduced by national governments without prior approval from the European Commission in Brussels.
EU gives member states licence to dispense aid

Member States still have to inform Brussels fully of any new measures, and all exempted State aids will have to be published on the Internet.

But grants will become available earlier to farmers and to companies processing and marketing agricultural products, without the often quite lengthy procedure of notifying new schemes to the Commission, and waiting for approval.
