Nowhere in the world is ownership of land so sacred as in Ireland.

Family roots in the land are deeply planted. They are hard to uproot, and there is a high sensitivity to any unnecessary "digging". Land is private property. But to the farming community it is much more than that. Farmers are not only custodians of the land. They love the land. There is something special and different about it. Even when it is not delivering a decent return, they are slow to release their ownership.
