Co-ops’ R&D investment welcomed

THE recent announcements by Dairygold and Glanbia of greater investment in R&D have been welcomed by the IFA.

Dairy Committee chairman Michael Murphy said such investment was essential to add greater value to milk and deliver viable prices to farmers.

He said the Irish dairy industry needs greater co-operation and joint investment. “It is essential that co-ops would research ways of increasing the value added to farmers’ milk, in order to maximise the returns extracted from the market place and deliver the best possible milk price.”
