BSE case confirmed in Monaghan

A CASE of BSE has been confirmed in a four-year-old cow in a Monaghan dairy herd. Another four-year-old was also diagnosed with the disease in the same county in May.

They are the youngest ever animals to have been found with BSE in this country, where the number of cases continues to decline rapidly.

The Department of Agriculture and Food will seek to establish how a cow born four years after enhanced feed controls were introduced in 1997 became infected.
