Walsh gives landslide guarantee

THE effects of last month’s devastating landslide in North Mayo will be taken into account by Department of Agriculture and Food officials when carrying out farm inspections for the Rural Environment Protection scheme.

Agriculture Minister Joe Walsh gave the assurance in a written Dáil reply to Fine Gael TD Michael Ring, who raised the plight of the farmers as a result of the landslide.

The minister said sympathetic cognisance will be taken of the disruption caused to farming activities by the unfortunate occurrence and the impact it has had on the ability of farmers to comply with the specific REPS measures.
