‘Know your beef’ move welcomed

HOTELS, restaurants and bars have agreed to voluntarily make available to their customers information on the country of origin of beef served in their premises.

Agriculture and Food Minister Mary Coughlan said she was pleased with this positive response from the Irish Hotels Federation, the Restaurants Association of Ireland and both vintners groups representing the pub sector.

She was confident that this voluntary system would commence in the very near future. “It also underlines the sector’s commitment to the Feile Bia scheme.” The Minister has already announced that she will shortly bring forward legislation on this issue.
