‘Up to 30% of meat, poultry imported’

ALMOST 20% of all beef and 30% of both pigmeat and poultry consumed in Ireland last year was non-Irish, according to Fine Gael deputy food spokesman Tom Hayes.

He said it is incredible in a country awash with top-quality 100% traceable produce that one-in-five cuts of beef and one-in-three of poultry and pigmeat served at Irish dinner tables are imported.

It is disgraceful that State agencies charged with promoting Irish produce let this happen, he said.
