Freak farm accident highlights information gap on power lines

The young man, who was to be conferred with his B Agr Sc degree at UCD early next month, tragically lost his life when he apparently "earthed" a silage harvester, which happened to stop in a field under a power line.

He had hailed the driver of the harvester to speak to him. As he made contact with the machine standing on the ground, it appears that a bolt of current "jumped" from the overhead power line to the chute of the harvester.
