80% of retail eggs quality assured

UP to 80% of the eggs sold in the retail market are quality assured, a Bord Bia egg and poultry conference was told in Athlone yesterday.

Food Minister Brendan Smith, who opened the conference, said Bord Bia launched its quality assurance scheme for poultry earlier this year.

“The general public is already familiar with the quality assurance mark on other foodstuffs and they view it as a reliable and independent guarantee of quality.
