No animal feed trials despite Askeaton farm animal deaths

THERE has been no assessment of the risks to human health arising out of the deaths of farm animals at Askeaton, Co Limerick, says Labour Party spokesperson on agriculture and food Dr Mary Upton, who has called on Agriculture and Food Minister Joe Walsh to re-open the investigation.

She said it was alarming to hear that no animal feed trials were carried out in the region.

“I am deeply concerned that the Department of Agriculture failed to carry out animal feed trials or an examination of meat and milk derived from animals on the affected farms, to establish whether there were any risks to human health”.
