BRITISH farmers have warned that Irish beef offered to caterers and food processors for 30c a kg could put a large portion of the British meat industry out of business.

News of a backlash has come as a surprise to Irish farmers, who have themselves mounted a vigorous campaign against meat from South America which sometimes undercuts Irish produce in our home market.

Devon farmer and livestock farmers' spokesman Richard Haddock has been explaining how a wave of cut-price imported beef is causing major financial problems for British abattoirs.
