MAJOR milk price changes are in the offing at Glanbia as the group aims for “affordable year round supplies of quality milk”.

A New Zealand-style system which penalises peak period milk production is being considered.

“Glanbia is looking at a similar scheme to incentivise milking in line with the Moorepark model, which is more efficient for farmers and reduces the need to add capacity to handle peak milk flow for just six weeks each year,” John Moloney, group managing director, told the Agricultural Science Association annual conference in Kilkenny.
