Direct payment to farmers commences

Direct payments being made to farmers for 2003 have commenced, Minister Joe Walsh has announced.

Payment of over €439 million is being issued to 70,000 farmers under various premium schemes.

When disadvantaged areas compensatory allowance payments, which commenced in September, are taken into account, a total of €647 million will have issued.
