Industry braces itself for impact of bird flu scare

THE EU poultry industry is bracing itself for a third slump in three years due to bird flu.

But the pigmeat industry could consolidate its number one position in the EU meat market, due to the scare over the first ever confirmed deaths of humans due to bird flu outside of Asia.

At least two deaths and 21 illnesses in Turkey have been attributed to the deadly strain of the disease.
