MORE than 700 angry farmers yesterday unanimously rejected any move to give European Union compensation to Greencore for the close-down of beet growing in Ireland.

Beet growers from around the country, who attended a meeting in Cahir, County Tipperary, demanded that they should be allocated the full €145 million compensation after 80 years of supplying beet for sugar processing in Ireland.

IFA president John Dillon said this is the least that growers are entitled to expect from the Government.
