Livestock manure can’t exceed 170kg of nitrogen per hectare

* Nutrient management regulations in the new legislation require farmers to prevent or minimise the application to land of fertilisers in excess of crop requirement. Phosphorus index 3 is deemed for soils, unless a soil test indicates that a different index is appropriate.

* The new nitrogen and phosphorous regulations apply to the breeding, keeping and sale of livestock (including cattle, horses, pigs, poultry, sheep and any creature kept for the production of food, wool, skins or fur), the making and storage of silage, the cultivation of land, and the growing of crops (including forestry and horticultural crops).
