Leaders accuse Walsh of twisting facts on incomes

THE IFA yesterday accused Agriculture and Food Minister Joe Walsh of waging a gross misinformation campaign to distract attention from the farm income crisis.
Leaders accuse Walsh of twisting facts on incomes

Speaking in Cork on the second day of the IFA farm family survival campaign, IFA president John Dillon demanded that the minister withdraw his highly misleading statement that farmers have an average “gross income” of 45,000 per year.

He also called on the minister to recognise that the average family farm income in 2002 was no more than €15,000. In a scathing attack, Mr Dillon said it is difficult to see how progress can be made with the Government until Mr Walsh acknowledges the stark reality of the low income problem in farming.
