DAIRYGOLD yesterday urged SIPTU to call off a planned ballot of workers at the co-op for possible industrial action - up to and including a strike.

The union decided to ballot its members during this week because it maintained the company was violating industrial relations agreements.

Dairygold, now in the middle of a major rationalisation programme, announced before Christmas that it had achieved 500 redundancies, nine of them believed to be compulsory.
