Consumer resistance to paying higher prices for meat are showing in Britain where the volume sales of fresh and frozen meat has dropped, while purchases of processed meats have increased significantly.

The latest Taylor Nelson Sofres Superpanel data for the three month period December-February has shown that housewives in Britain are spending more money on meat, but they have cut back on the volume of more expensive meats being purchased.

Bord Bia points out that a drop of four per cent in the purchased volume of fresh and frozen beef has been more than offset by a significant increase in the purchase of processed meats, beef burgers, chilled ready meats, pork and sausages.
