Argentina in no mood to lift ban on beef exports
The world’s third biggest beef exporter cut off the trade nearly two months ago, with the government pledging to continue the ban for 180 days, in order to curtail rising meat prices paid by Argentine consumers. Some 600,000 tonnes of beef has been diverted from exports into the domestic market.
The decision has helped to boost cattle prices in the EU, which produces 400,000 tonnes per year less beef than its citizens consume.
