Farming policy changes ‘urgent’

THE risks for farmers in delaying the proposed European Union agricultural policy changes have been outlined by Commissioner Franz Fischler.
Farming policy changes ‘urgent’

Speaking during a visit to Paris, he said the mid-term review of the Common Agricultural Policy was not the turnaround of the agricultural policy that some of the farmers fear and that some critics hope for.

"It is nothing else than a necessary and logical continuation of the reform process started in 1992. We cannot stick to the status quo. Changes are urgent." Mr Fischler said his proposals will help preserve farm incomes; help meet CAP objectives; help integrate the acceding countries, and help adapt the CAP to society's requirements.
