BSE case confirmed in Monaghan

A CASE of BSE has been confirmed in a four-year-old pedigree Friesian cow in a mixed dairy-suckler herd in Monaghan.

It is the youngest animal to have been diagnosed with the disease in this country, where the number of cases continues to decline rapidly.

Veterinary experts predict that the disease will eventually disappear from the national herd as older animals leave the system.
