170 transport jobs may be axed in Dairygold plan to reduce cost base

UNIONS and workers in Dairygold were given the first indication last night that the firm is serious about rationalisation in the group that employs more than 3,000.

Transport has become the first key target for the chop.

Up to 170 jobs will be axed, but many are due to be absorbed through the formation of new distribution companies to be set up by existing transport workers as new private enterprise operations.
