EU: The umbrella organisations of European farmers and their co-operatives, COPA and COGECA, have expressed strong concerns regarding the present management of the EU dairy market by the European Commission.

Secretary General Franz-Josef Feiter said they had noted the commission has sought to push successive reductions in EU milk market supports at recent milk management committee meetings.

“Moreover, we are concerned at the level of speculation that abounds regarding the commission’s approach to managing the market following the next intervention price cut on July 1, 2005.” The bodies called for a period of stability during summer.
