Beef export challenge

IRISH beef exporters must re-direct 14% of their shipments next year to cope with the arrival of an additional 185,000 tonnes of British beef per year on the UK market.

The British government has confirmed it will scrap the Over Thirty Month Rule which has been keeping about 750,000 cattle off the market since 1996.

This will happen in the "latter half of 2005."
