Live exports continue to recover

Marts: Despite an increase of 135% in live exports in the year to date, the live export trade continues to lag 40% behind the pre-BSE level of three years ago.
Live exports continue to recover

Total exports to mid-April were 32,000 head higher than the same period in 2002 with live export recovering to 56,000 head, as a result of the increased demand for Irish cattle from sources in Spain, Italy and Holland as well as an improvement in the price competitiveness of Irish cattle relative to French and German supplies available on the EU market.

Bord Bia points out that Spain is at present accounting for more than half of the total live exports to continental EU markets.
