Milk suppliers are heading for a large super levy bill unless they can reduce supplies to their co-ops over the next few weeks.

Deliveries were about 1% or 10million gallons over quota at the end of February with processors reporting sharp increases. A super levy fine of €1.67 per gallon will apply to all gallons over full annual quota.

Glanbia has warned that its milk supplies are running 4% over quota per week. Butterfat adjusted supplies to March 13 are 2.5m gallons over quota. As of the end of February, 570 Glanbia milk suppliers had filled their annual quota.
