GLANBIA's group managing director John Moloney used the opening of the group’s new €15 million innovation centre in Kilkenny to issue a warning about the Groceries Order.

He said the abolition of the order and consequent destabilising of the home market would undermine innovation. “With changes in agricultural policy and world trade pressures, commodity food exporting is under threat, creating the need to move up the value chain,” he said.

“If we stay with our current commodity profile Ireland in general will loose out. Irish food businesses will not be able to recover Irish costs. This will undermine employment in food manufacturing.
