BSE mystery unsolved

THE exact cause of BSE in two animals born in 1999 could not be identified, Agriculture and Food Minister Joe Walsh has told the Dáil.

He said factors which could be associated with the disease were, however, identified on the farms.

Mr Walsh was replying to Labour Party leader Pat Rabbitte, who asked why so many cases of BSE continue to be discovered in animals born after meat and bone meal was banned in 1990.
