THE 15 machines needed for automated carcass grading in the Irish beef industry could be in place by March 2004, according to Agriculture Minister Joe Walsh.

He has welcomed the agreement of the beef sector to co-operate with this time scale.

As a result, he has postponed the ending of the current system of carcass classification by Department officers, until March 1.
