MORE than half the winter barley harvest was completed before last weekend, with yields generally of 7 to 9 tonnes per hectare (3 to 3.5 tonnes per acre). Six row varieties performed well.

Winter oats and spring barley crops also look promising, but recent heavy rain caused considerable lodging in spring barley.

Advisers recommend pre-harvest glyphosate to clear up grass weeds that were poorly controlled through the year, especially in Winter Wheat.
